Govt bank jobs: how public sector banks recruit

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) runs common recruitment processes (CRPs) for public sector banks and regional rural banks. The main CRPs each year are PO/MT for officers, CSA (Clerk) for customer service associates, SO for specialist officers, and RRB for officers and office assistants of regional rural banks. The State Bank of India recruits its own Probationary Officers and Junior Associates, and the Reserve Bank of India runs separate recruitments. Banks also engage graduate apprentices for one year through the NATS portal.

Bank exam updates this season

Bank exam pattern basics

Bank recruitments have a prelims (English, quantitative aptitude and reasoning) and a mains (reasoning and computer aptitude, general and banking awareness, English, data analysis, and for PO a descriptive English test). Officer posts end with an interview; clerk posts have a language proficiency test instead. Marks for wrong answers are reduced by one-quarter.

Eligibility and documents

PO and Clerk posts need a degree in any discipline by the date in the notice, and usually an age of 20–30 (PO) or 20–28 (Clerk) years, with relaxation for reserved categories. Regional rural bank and clerk posts need proficiency in the official language of the state you apply for. Bank applications also ask for a left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration – use the IBPS presets in our photo and signature resizer.
